Big Sky Country

Big sky country is a re shoot of the same area that we shot 30 years ago for the National film Board book “Between Friends.”

The physical landscape itself has not changed and we tended to photograph that on this self imposed assignment, before it also disappears.  Big Sky Country consists of an area 100 miles north and south of the international boarder in Alberta and Montana.

The most notable change in 30 years was the abandonment of the small town and rural commerce. There is still evidence of the footprints in Montana of the old school house and what was once thriving rural environment. There may still be a chance of some sort of historical preservation at selective sites. On the Canadian side of the boarder there would seem to be an headlong rush to topple old grain elevators, school houses, train stations, and most other structures that relate to our rural past.
